With clients who have such passion and attention to detail, the outcome of this project couldn’t be anything short of incredible. When homeowners possess a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship and beauty, it elevates every aspect of the work. This is a very classic garden design and build, one that respects tradition whilst meeting the needs of contemporary family life.
The scale of the existing large Oak tree and Eucalyptus trees dictated the need for a pool that brought proportion to the property and created the opportunity for beautiful reflections. These mature specimens are commanding presences, and any new elements needed to hold their own within this established landscape. The existing pool was half the size and looked out of place, lost amongst the grandeur of the surrounding trees.
Landart extended it substantially to include a spa and comfortable wading section to allow for large groups. The expanded pool now commands its position within the garden, its surface capturing the movement of branches overhead and creating mirror-like reflections that change throughout the day. The spa provides a focal point for evening gatherings, whilst the wading section offers a relaxed zone where children can play and adults can cool off without committing to a full swim.
Family and friends can spend the day by the pool and then retreat to the outdoor fireplace to finish off the evening. This layering of spaces ensures the garden functions beautifully from morning through to night, supporting different moods and activities. The fireplace becomes a natural gathering point as temperatures drop, extending the usability of the outdoor areas well into the cooler months.
There are some contemporary items in this space; however, most of the garden and finishes are very classic in feel and pay homage to the more traditional surrounding neighbourhood. In areas where period homes dominate, a landscape that respects that architectural language feels appropriate and timeless. Rather than imposing a jarring modern aesthetic, we chose to work within a classical vocabulary, adding contemporary comfort and functionality in subtle ways.
The front boundary fence is completely bespoke, featuring Sydney sandstone and custom-designed wrought iron detail. This level of craftsmanship at the street edge sets expectations for what lies beyond. Cobblestone driveways lined by groves of birch trees and pleached pears finish off the traditional feel, creating an arrival experience that feels both grand and welcoming.
This garden requires constant care to help it thrive, and Landart are honoured to be nurturing the design vision into fruition with our garden maintenance team. Classical gardens demand more than occasional attention—they need regular pruning, seasonal adjustments, and an understanding of how each plant contributes to the overall composition. Our ongoing involvement ensures the garden continues to mature as intended, becoming richer and more characterful with each passing season.
