Headland House

Coastal Garden and Pool Design
Designed as one unified project, the home and garden were developed side by side, so the property feels grounded, connected, and made for outdoor living. Natural stone and Australian hardwoods carry through the architecture, garden, and pool, shaping a relaxed coastal setting for family time and entertaining.

One design language, inside and out

Developing the house design and the garden landscaping design together meant the details could be resolved as a whole, rather than patched in later. Materials were selected to sit comfortably in the coastal setting, with Australian hardwoods and natural stone used across the home and garden so the transition between spaces feels calm and consistent.

A pool that feels like a rockpool

Taking cues from the surrounding coastline and rockpools, the stone tile continues from internal floors to external paving and into the pool. That continuity gives the water a natural quality, as if it belongs to the site, not as a separate “pool zone”. It also keeps the palette refined and helps the outdoor areas read as part of the home.

A garden that connects the whole site

The garden and landscape construction flows from the entry through to the rear of the property, so the front and back feel connected rather than divided. The northern side aspect and headland outlook shaped the layout, with spaces positioned to take advantage of light, breeze, and long views. Coastal plants were selected for their ability to handle harsh conditions, including on the first-floor balcony, while keeping the overall feel relaxed and sympathetic to the natural surrounds.

As day turns to evening, the fire pit becomes the gathering point, with the ocean stretching beyond and the garden holding the home in place.
