Celebrating Accomplishments and Embracing Opportunities for 2025

23 January 2025 5 min read

We recently sat down with our Director, Matt Leacy, to reflect on the past year and hear his thoughts on what lies ahead for 2025. In our conversation, Matt shared candid insights about the challenges and achievements of 2024, as well as his vision for continuing to refine Landart’s approach to design and construction.
“2024 was a year that tested our resilience but also reminded us of the strength of our team,” Matt said. “Despite the changing economy, we delivered some of our most ambitious projects yet, including the designing and building of 2 new homes and landscapes, plus multiple home renovations and landscapes, and laid the groundwork for an exciting future.”

Recognition at the TLA Industry Awards

A highlight of 2024 was being recognised at the TLA Industry Awards, earning the title ‘The Landscaper of the Year’ for both Residential Construction and Residential Maintenance. Projects like The Oak Project and The House Upon the Hill underscored our ability to craft personalised landscapes that harmonise with their surroundings.

The Oak Project, for example, integrated a large pool, spa, and outdoor spaces within a mature neighbourhood. Designed to complement its environment, the result was a landscape that felt established yet tailored to the client’s vision—a hallmark of our approach.

“Awards like these are more than just a recognition of our work,” Matt explained. “They celebrate the collaborative effort between our team and clients and highlight our craftsmanship in the industry.” Although awards were not initially a key focus for the team, they brought unexpected benefits, motivating everyone involved and exciting our clients.

Navigating Challenges Together

While achievements defined certain moments, 2024 also brought its share of challenges. A slower economic climate tested the adaptability and resilience of our team. What stood out most was how our people came together, finding solutions and demonstrating exceptional teamwork.

Among our notable projects were a full home and landscape transformation in Palm Beach and another in Narrabeen. These projects showcased our ability to manage complexity while maintaining the high standards clients associate with Landart.

One standout project was a unique penthouse rooftop garden, designed to maximise its location between Manly and Freshwater Beach. Its intricate layout highlighted our team’s creativity and versatility. With these completed, we’re excited to use them as sources of inspiration in the coming year.

Focusing on Sustainability

Sustainability continues to guide our projects. While there is still progress to be made industry-wide, we’ve advanced several areas:

  • Solar Solutions: Encouraging the use of solar energy to power pools and home systems, reducing reliance on traditional grids.
  • Smart Irrigation: Employing weather-predictive technology to optimise water usage.
  • Energy-Saving Lighting: Incorporating motion-sensitive and low-energy lighting systems to improve efficiency without compromising design.

Matt also expressed a strong desire to improve sustainability in material sourcing and usage, noting that educating clients on alternative materials could help shift industry practices. By integrating these practices, we’re helping clients create homes that balance environmental mindfulness with luxury.

Looking Ahead to 2025

2025 has already started on an exciting note for Landart. We’re proud to share that we have been featured in the January edition of House and Garden magazine with a nine-page spread showcasing our projects and design philosophy. This recognition underscores our dedication to excellence and sets a fantastic tone for the year ahead.

In 2025, we aim to build on the solid foundation of last year. With several exciting projects in the pipeline, much of our focus will be on navigating approvals and bringing these designs to life. While this process is complex, it remains essential to our commitment to delivering exceptional results.

Looking at trends, we’re seeing clients embrace more diverse materials and bold textures in their designs. For example, combining natural stone with metallic finishes or incorporating richly textured woods alongside vibrant terrazzo accents is gaining popularity. “This shift allows for greater creativity and individuality, and it’s a direction I’m thrilled to explore,” Matt noted. From richer colour palettes to layered materials, there’s an exciting opportunity to create truly unique spaces.

Evolving Client Needs

The concept of luxury continues to evolve. Features like outdoor wellness areas—including saunas, ice baths, and yoga platforms—are becoming more sought after, complementing the now almost-standard inclusion of al fresco dining spaces, outdoor kitchens, and lounge areas. These elements, once considered exceptional, are increasingly viewed as essentials, reflecting how clients value multifunctional outdoor spaces.

“What’s exciting is that clients now want their homes to be places of wellness and retreat,” Matt shared. “Adding features like yoga pavilions or saunas turns their property into a personal sanctuary.”

Investing in Our Team

A significant focus in 2024 was supporting our team’s growth. Beyond technical training, we prioritised leadership and management development, empowering our staff to take on new challenges and grow in their careers. Recognitions, such as the Apprentice of the Year award received by Dominic Spillane, reflect the importance we place on nurturing talent.

“Our team is the backbone of everything we do,” Matt said. “Investing in their growth ensures we continue to push boundaries in both design and construction.” In-house workshops focused on preparing team members for leadership roles, ensuring they are ready to meet future challenges and opportunities.

A Year of Opportunity

As we move through 2025, we’re eager to share the results of our efforts. From showcasing completed projects to embarking on new ones, there’s much to look forward to. To our clients, team, and partners, thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to another year of thoughtful, impactful design and meaningful collaboration.
